Cutting to the Chase: Avoiding Those Critical Mistakes!
Have you ever thought…if pressure makes diamonds, then I should be rich? The pressures of being knowledgeable of revisions to regulations and meeting the vast number of requirements under NCLB, IDEA, Section 504 and FERPA can create critical mistakes. Participants will explore the common mistakes related to the special education processes that cause compliance issues and undermine the success of programs concerning students with disabilities. Issues related to the responsibilities of principals, teachers, special education staff members and administrative assistants will also be discussed.
Practical solutions will be explored in the critical areas to improve student achievement, including the tier process, behavior, inclusion, IEP development/implementation, Section 504, data entry and timelines.

Tried and True: Strategies to Address the Complexity of Today’s Curriculum
Do you need help building your knowledge of research-based strategies? Do you have an understanding of how such strategies link to the Depth of Knowledge (DOK) levels to meet the instructional challenges in classroom activities?
Although emphasis has been placed on clarifying the use of the Depth of Knowledge (DOK) levels to measure the degree of complexity of assessment items, little attention has been given to the link between the levels and the use of instructional strategies in the classroom. Participants will explore how to use research-based strategies to promote engagement, comprehension and academic success to bridge the gap between motivation, classroom teaching and student learning.
